West Wight Wander

The West Wight Wander is a 25 or 13 mile walk (depending on your preference) and takes in some of the most beautiful countryside on the west of the Isle of Wight.
The West Wight Wander is open to all United Kingdom Fire and Rescue Service serving and retired personnel.
The Route: The walk consists of two routes, 25 miles and 13 miles, to be completed by 1830hrs.
Both start and finish at Yarmouth Fire Station, Station Road, Yarmouth.
Following the coastal path to Alum Bay and The Needles, then to Freshwater, the short distance walkers return via the old railway track alongside the River Yar.
Long distance walkers continue along the coastal path and return via Newbridge and Shalfleet passing the National Trust property of Mottistone en-route. The walk takes in outstanding coastal and downland views.
A route description will be available to all walkers.
Ordnance Survey Explorer Map No: 29 will be marked with both routes and on display at the start of the events.
All walkers must register at the start and collect their tally for checkpoint purposes.
Registration will commence at 0745hrs for long distance walkers to start at 0830hrs and 0845 hrs for short distance walkers to start at 0930hrs.
Additional Information
Public toilets: Toilets are available at Alum Bay, Freshwater and Compton Bay.
Refreshments: All checkpoints will supply cold drinks and snacks.
First Aid: A first aider will be arranged if required.
Badge and Certificate: A certificate and embroidered badge will be presented to all walkers who
complete their route in the times allowed.
Entry Fee: Advance entry fee: £5.00 (£10.00 entry on the day)
All postal entries are to be received by 4 July 2009.
