London Fire Brigade National Dinghy Championships – 5 April 2010

The IWFRS has received the following notice regarding the above charity events in aid of Help the Heroes.

This is the London Fire Brigade National Dinghy Championships, open to serving and retired Firefighters.

Mon Monday 5 April 2010 at 12:00hrs ten ASC’s with a crew of five will start a 24 hour sailing race finishing at 12:00hrs on tuesday 6 April 2010. During that 24 hours two support crew will be allowed to swap places but the dinghys will not be allowed to touch dry land for 24 hours. Food, sleep and drinks for the five crew must be taken aboard. This will be passed form the jetty or taken out by the support boats.

The boat completing the most laps in 24 hours willb e declared the winner. Trophies for first, second and third place will be provided.

Each dinghy will have to raise a minimum of £500 to enter plus a £20 registration fee. LFB are hoping to raise in excess of £5,000 target for Help the Heroes and a donation to the Firefighters Charity and the Sea Cadet Corps.

The Hospice has to raise £4,500 per day to continue the care given to all patients, so support is much appreciated.

This event will be held on 24 and 25 April 2010 at Robin Hill as part of their Garden Show (times to be confirmed). Teams of ten will be required and they will be able to cater for 40 teams!

Sun 23rd May.  9.00am to 6.00pm.  Fancy walking across the Solent?  

Why not get a team of four together to walk on a treadmill, on the St Clare Wightlink Ferry, from Portsmouth to Fishbourne.  

The idea is to clock up as many miles as possible and be sponsored for walking on the Solent.  See if you can beat our Head Office team!

The Africa Children’s Development Trust (ACDT) is an Island-based charity that works with children in Uganda through a number of projects, including mosquito net distributions. If you are fairly fit, willing and able, you might like to enter a team in this year’s Row for Life sponsored charity event.

The event is being held in St Thomas’ Square, Newport from 25 to 27 June 2010, where teams will be rowing continuously on rowing machines for a total of 800,000 metres. 800,000 represents the number of children under five years old who die of malaria in sub Sahara Africa each year.
